They Came With a Question About Procrastination. The Dream Revealed a Choice About Self-Medication.
"In the dream I am faced with the prospect of using marijuana. I know it is not a good idea. I have sworn off the use of the drug, but in this dream I am faced with the prospect of using it. The dream presents the challenge that I have faced of 'self-medication.'"
This participant came to Guided Dreaming with a challenge many know well: lack of productivity due to procrastination and indecision.

What emerged was unexpected and deeply honest.
During their waking dream, they received a surprise visit from their cousin. Their residence was in disarray. There wasn't much space. Other familiar people were there too. It was crowded. The cousin sat aloof, anxious, lost in his thoughts.
And then, the participant found themselves asking: Would you like me to purchase some marijuana?
The insight?
"I know it is not a good idea. I have sworn off the use of the drug."
The dream didn't offer a magical solution. It offered something more valuable: awareness.
It surfaced a pattern. A temptation. A moment of choice.
"Were I to wake up in the dream, or become lucid, I would have actively affirmed my desire to not self-medicate."
They saw the challenge clearly and saw what they would have done differently if they'd had more awareness in the moment.
"Perhaps the group sessions this week have prompted a confrontation with one of my challenges."
That's the transformative power of dreaming while awake. Sometimes the dream doesn't hand you an answer. It shows you the truth so you can meet it with open eyes.
